What you can do in Nebraska’s CD-1
Help Elect Pro-Democracy Public Officials
The Primary Elections are now over and Nebraskans now have five months to help elect public officials who will work with us to defend our democracy. The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign leadership, after consulting with other pro-democracy activists, has compiled and shared their reflections on key upcoming election campaigns. For your consideration, their thoughts and suggestions are available here.
Help Us Shape Our Next Campaign Direction
Over 2,300 Nebraskans, from 150 cities and towns, have joined you and endorsed the open letter to Congress calling on them to defend our democracy. That letter has now been published in five major newspapers. Over 400 “Defend Our Democracy” yard signs have been distributed. Now, we need your help in deciding where to best put our focus next. To gather that input we are asking you to complete a very short survey to let us know what else you might be interested in doing to help defend our democracy.
Please take a few minutes to give us your thoughts — your input is vital — no donation is involved.
Highlight the Threats to Our Democracy
Helping to elect pro-democracy candidates is important. But it is also important that we continue to highlight the on-going threats to our democracy. We can do that by :
Placing “Defend Our Democracy” signs in your yard along with candidate’s yard signs,
Being a visible pro-democracy presence at election campaign events with signs and banners and asking questions of the candidates regarding their positions on threats to our democracy and their oath of office,
Writing letters-to-the-editor or opinion pieces for local newspaper,”
Reaching out to your friends and co-workers personally or through social media or email and urge them to consider joining you and the 2,300 Nebraskans who have endorsed the “Defend Our Democracy” open letter.
Chris Backemeyer - Congressional Candidate for Nebraska’s First District
Each of us must decide for ourselves which candidates are most deserving of our time and money. After reviewing the candidates running, the Stand Up Nebraska Campaign leadership is encouraging support for Chris Backemeyer, the Democratic candidate running for the 1st Congressional seat.
Please Complete our Short Survey
Following our successful newspaper ad campaign and yard sign distributions we are in the process of reflecting on how best to work with concerned Nebraskans to make our voices heard. We really want your input. Please take just a few minutes to complete our short survey so that we might better understand how we can best work together to defend our democracy.
Your support and input is critical to our success.
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign is a grassroots campaign entirely “staffed” and funded by volunteers. A report on what we have been able to accomplish with your support is available here. Every project we undertake is supported and funded by concerned Nebraskans like yourself. With no paid staff, all our funding goes to directly support our outreach and organizing projects. Please use the online donation form to help make this on-going outreach and mobilization effort a success.
Yard Signs
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign has designed and distributed over 400 yard signs. Place one of these signs in your yard, along with a candidate’s sign, as one more way to make your concerns seen and heard. These custom designed yard signs may be ordered here.
