Help Needed at Stand Up Nebraska Campaign
Your help is needed!
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign efforts to reach out and find Nebraskans concerned about threats to our democracy has been successful. So successful, that it is now taxing the ability of the small core group of original volunteer leaders to keep up. Our initial efforts to find 200 folks in Scottsbluff/Gering, or 1,000 folks in Lincoln, who were willing to stand up and be publicly listed in newspaper ads was a challenge. But it was doable for our original small groups. And we did it! However, making the most of the possibilities presented by the growing list of 2,100+ open letter endorser, who are scattered all across Nebraska in over 140 cities and towns, is a challenge on a different level. It is just not practical to make the most of this opportunity with just our original small core of volunteer leaders. We need your help!
At the present time, the Stand Up Nebraska Campaign is “staffed” and funded entirely by volunteers like yourself. As much as is practical, we would like to keep it that way. That allows us to maximize what can accomplish with the resources we have available. But, there is work that needs to be done. We know that among the 2,100+ Defend Our Democracy open letter endorsers, there is a vast array of talent. We are hoping a some of you are willing, and able, to take another step forward and help us with some of the volunteer work that needs to be done. Below is a rough outline of some of areas for which we know we need help. There are obviously other areas of volunteer efforts that could be explored and developed. Much of the things for which we need help can be done remotely or right at home in your region. If you are interested in exploring how you might help, please drop us a note and give us an idea of your interests and skills.
Social Media Manager/Content Creator
Many of the original volunteer leaders of Stand Up Nebraska are of, shall we say, “the older generation of organizers”. While many of us are casual users/consumers of social media, we have limited knowledge and experience in the numerous varieties of social media . But that does not mean we do not appreciate the potential and need to utilize these media to reach out and mobilize the various segments of our society. If this is an area in which you feel comfortable, either as a higher level infrastructure manager/administrator or as a content creator and/or distributor, we could use your help.
Database Management.
Currently our database of 2,100+ open letter endorsers is maintained in an MS Excel spreadsheet. There are on-going names to be added, duplicates to be found, and analysis of responses to aid future initiatives. Most of the new additions now come to us via online registration forms, but some come via paper forms that need to be entered and cross-checked. There is also a growing need to manage data related to contributions, yard signs, etc. The personal contact information in this data is private and needs to be respected as such. Future efforts may call for this spreadsheet data to be integrated into a more comprehensive database management system. If this is an area for which you have skills and an interest, we have a need.
Regional Outreach Contact Person and/or Organizer
We are finding more and more Nebraskans who are concerned about the threats to our democracy,. Establishing a connection with each other, beyond a database name and an occasional email, is critical to sustaining our involvement and making the most of our opportunities to make a difference. Some of us are naturally social beings and organizational inclined. Others, not so much so. We need people willing to put in the time and effort to reach out and establish a personal connection with the Nebraskans who have stepped forward and publicly endorsed our open letter to Congress. Motivating, sustaining and activating these concerned Nebraskans is the key to our success. That could a single contact person in a rural area or someone willing to make personal connections to a small subset of the 1,000+ concerned folks in an urban area. You could be one of these outreach contact/organizer persons.
Graphic Artists
Words are fine. Pictures and graphics are better. As we become more involved with using social media as an outreach tool, having someone(s) capable of producing attractive digital graphics is critical to highlighting and conveying our message. If you have these skills, please consider donating some of your time and talent to help us defend our democracy.
