Nebraska Senate
Dan Osborn (Independent)
Pete Ricketts (Incumbent) (Republican Party)
Cindy Burbank (Democratic Party)
Mike Marvin (Legal Marijuana Now)
Senator Pete Ricketts continues to be a strong supporter of President Trump’s authoritarian agenda. He has provided only occasional comments of concern, but almost always votes to support the Trump agenda. From our perspective, Sen. Ricketts has not honored his oath of office to defend the Constitution and he does not deserve re-election.
Dan Osborn is a declared independent candidate for Senate (https://www.osbornforsenate.com/). His campaign is in the process of collecting the required signatures to appear on the ballot. While Mr. Osborn has not fleshed out the details of his thoughts and positions on the defense of democracy and the Constitution, if elected he is unlikely to support the Republican Party’s continued control of the Senate and the rubber stamping of the Trump authoritarian agenda. Mr. Osborn has spoken strongly about the need to control the moneyed corporate influence on our public policy. Available opinion polls show this to be a very close race. Over the course of the campaign, both Mr. Osborn and Sen. Ricketts should be questioned about their positions on voting rights, human rights, Congressional oversight, Congress’s role in declaring war, and their interpretation of the Congressional oath of office.
However, at this time, we believe that the election of Dan Osborn, rather than the re-election of Pete Ricketts, would likely further the defense of our democracy.
