What you can do
Be Sure to Vote
Right now one of the most important things you can do is vote in the upcoming Tuesday, May 12th primary election. One of most comprehensive, statewide, and non-partisan voter’s guide that I have found for Nebraska is one published by the Nebraska Examiner (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/voter-guides/2026-primary-election/). Because this is a primary election, this voter’s guide does not have information on some of the promising “Independent” candidates, as they will not be on the primary ballot.
Please Complete our Short Democracy Defender Survey
Following our successful newspaper ad campaign and yard sign distributions we are in the process of reflecting on how best to work with concerned Nebraskans to make our voices heard. We need your input. Please take just a few minutes to complete our short survey so that we might better understand how we can best work together to defend our democracy.
Your support and input is critical to our success.
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign is a grassroots campaign entirely “staffed” and funded by volunteers. A report on what we have been able to accomplish with your support is available here. Every project we undertake is supported and funded by concerned Nebraskans like yourself. With no paid staff, all our funding goes to directly support our outreach and organizing projects. Please use the online donation form to help make this on-going outreach and mobilization effort a success.
May Day, Workers Over Billionaires rallies and events are scheduled in cities across the state on May 1, 2026
On Friday, May 1, 21026, there are “May Day” rallies scheduled in 7 cities and towns across Nebraska (click here for a list). These non-violent rallies provide us with an occasion to show each other, and our communities, the depth of concern Nebraskans share about threats to our democracy. Stay tuned to this space for information on future rallies. Consider joining your friends and neighbors at a rally near you.
Supporting Elections
Here are some ideas and links to go to if any of these activities sounds right for you.
Sign up to be a poll worker. Below is a Lancaster County link. Most urban counties have an election commissioner whose office is responsible for recruiting and managing poll workers. https://www.lancaster.ne.gov/FormCenter/Election-Commissioner-21/Poll-Worker-Application-150"
Volunteer with the election protection program (Civic Nebraska) which involves a brief advance training, and then on election day watching for and reporting violations of voting rules, https://civic-nebraska.vomo.org/opportunity/election26
Volunteer for voter registration efforts (Civic Nebraska, political parties)
Volunteer for non-candidate-specific Get Out the Vote Campaign Efforts (League of Women Voters)
Publicize Vote 411, https://www.vote411.org/, People can register to vote, learn what will be on their ballot, and check their registration.
Yard Signs.
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign has designed and distributed over 400 yard signs as yet one more way for concerned Nebraskans to make our concerns seen and heard. These custom designed yard signs may be ordered here.
