What you can do
Be Sure to Vote
Right now one of the most important things you can do is vote in the upcoming Tuesday, May 12th primary election. One of most comprehensive, statewide, and non-partisan voter’s guide that I have found for Nebraska is one published by the Nebraska Examiner (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/voter-guides/2026-primary-election/).
Because this is a primary election, this voter’s guide does not have information on some of the promising “Independent” candidates, as they will not be on the primary ballot.
Letter to Congress.
By endorsing the Defend Our Democracy open letter to Congress, you joined with over 2,200 Nebraskans in publicly expressing your concerns about threats to our democracy. It is time to make sure our members of Congress, hear our concerns — loud and clear. If each of us send a letter to our members of Congress they will hear us. Please feel free to write your own letter, but if you would like some assistance a sample letter and the Congressional addresses are here. Please do it today so that the best of intentions don’t lose out to “I’ll do it later”.
Your support and input is critical to our success.
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign is a grassroots campaign entirely “staffed” and funded by volunteers. A report on what we have been able to accomplish with your support is available here. Every project we undertake is supported and funded by concerned Nebraskans like yourself. With no paid staff, all our funding goes to directly support our outreach and organizing projects. Please use the online donation form to help make this on-going outreach and mobilization effort a success.
Our just completed outreach project was to publish ¼ page newspaper ads in the cities of Norfolk, Omaha, and Kearney. Previously we had published full and half-page ads in the Scottsbluff, Omaha, and Lincoln newspapers. These ads included the Defend Our Democracy open letter and a total of over 1,200 names of endorsing Nebraskans. At this point over 2,200 Nebraskans, from over 150 Nebraska cities, have publicly endorsed this open letter calling on Congress to defend our democracy. We need your help to continue this outreach effort. Please use this online donation form to help us continue these successful outreach efforts.
Right now, we are taking
Yard Signs.
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign has designed and distributed over 400 yard signs as yet one more way for concerned Nebraskans to make our concerns seen and heard. These custom designed yard signs may be ordered here.
May Day, Workers Over Billionaires rallies and events are scheduled in seven cities across the state on May 1, 2026
On Friday, May 1, 21026, there are “May Day” rallies scheduled in 7 cities and towns across Nebraska (click here for a list). These non-violent rallies provide us with an occasion to show each other, and our communities, the depth of concern Nebraskans share about threats to our democracy. Stay tuned to this space for information on future rallies. Consider joining your friends and neighbors at a rally near you
Be a Democracy Defender.
To be successful, our campaign to defend our democracy can not be a one-shot effort. Defending our democracy will require a sustained, multi-faceted effort. At a minimum, we need to be developing plans to sustain strategic pro-democracy efforts for the next three years. We invite you to consider making a personal commitment to be a Democracy Defender and to pledge to yourself to conduct at least one pro-democracy activity each month. To help us sustain our efforts, you are also asked to report back monthly, to our community, so that we can see and experience our collective impacts. We will be with you as we share ideas for both individual and collective actions.
If you got to this webpage via an email, one of the easiest ways to reach out to others is to share the email that brought you here with friends, family and co-workers. There are 100s of thousands of Nebraskans who share our concerns. However, many of us feel alone and isolated and don’t know what to do. One of our first challenges is to help us find and connect with each other. Forwarding this email is an easy, quick way to help accomplish that.
Help Wanted
The Stand Up Nebraska Campaign efforts to reach out and find Nebraskans concerned about threats to our democracy has been successful. So successful, that it is now taxing the ability of the small core group of original volunteer leaders to keep up with the task that need to done. Tasks that need to done to take advantage of the opportunities that are presenting themselves. We have identified a few tasks area for which we obviously need help. Many of these tasks can be done remotely from your home. Please check our our Help Wanted area as see if you have these interests and skills.
